'Apostates want to draw people after themselves'--what are they really implying?

when jws say this, what are they really saying?

i was pondering this recently, and i was thinking...what they're really trying to imply is simple:.

apostates are thus accused of attempting to be cult leaders.. because the idea is that since they're not getting people to follow christ, but follow themselves, then they want their 'victims'' belief system to be centered around an individual, following that person's directions.

You know, even as a dub, I used to wonder a bit about this, about these bad apostates lurking about, "seeking to draw me away to themself." But where were they? I didn't see any actively trying to draw me away. It was more a case of me having to seek them out!!

Even the ones you'd see occasionally at the DCs would usually stand aside, not directly approaching anybody. Where the heck were all these evil apostate people that were supposed to be everywhere?? I didn't see anyone behind bushes or peeking around corners or following me about, trying to draw me away after themself.

though it still depresses me to think of all the young ones (including my own relatives) falling under the influence of this dangerous piece of propaganda, it's at least some small comfort that the sparlock video is backfiring so dramatically among thinking non-jws.. .

This video by the WTS keeps blowing my mind every time I see it.

Has anyone noticed when the snake is tempting Caleb with the toy, the scene and even a portion of the music is VERY DERIVATIVE from the Disney movie, The Jungle Book!? Almost the same scene where Ka, the snake is trying to capture little Mowgli. Can someone find part of that scene from The Jungle Book and post it...? I mean seriously, there are even a few bars of music that sound exactly the same!!

And of course when little Caleb makes his decision to get rid of the toy, the WTS music from the song, Listen, Obey, and Be Blessed, is playing softly in the background....

Tech49 on DC: Experiences are not truthful

i was sent a link to a homemade video from our summer district convention, not the one i attended, but the next weekend.

it was a video of a local brother, relating his "experience" of "trusting in jehovah", and how he was blessed.. it was just about 1 short minute long.

ms harper showed it to me first, she wanted to get my comment on it before she said a word.. background: we both know this brother, he is about our age, so we know the "real" story.. anyways, his story goes like this: this experience goes back about 10 years (jeez, we must be really searching for the experiences now!).

True!! I remember hearing one experience where I *KNOW* that the sister's part was heavily changed. She was a single mom, on a disability income. She had two children. However, the CO wanted the part to be more "typical" of the average single-mom's experience. So they changed her part to make her a tired, hard-working mom with two jobs, and gave her an extra child to boot!

She told me how dishonest this made her feel, yet the CO assured her that this experience would be more far-reaching and helpful in addressing the needs of the circuit, etc. Also told her how blessed and honored she would be to play this part in helping a larger group of Jehovah's people.

Was the TM School really any good ?

many of us were members of the theocratic ministry school for many years.

some say it helped them with public speaking, and maybe it did for some.. but, when you look back at the quality of student it turned out, was it really any good ?.

most elders are crap public speakers, most r&f bros are crap at reading aloud, most jw's are crap at selling their religion at the door, most jw's have scant real knowledge of the bible.. there are reasons for this, quite often the tms overeer hasn't a clue how to teach a person to progress.

It was good for me, helped overcome anxieties, insecurities and terror at speaking in front of people.

Bizarre, nonsensical answer from JW.org on their FAQ page...

the question is: "why don't you call your meeting place a church?".

the answer makes no sense at all.

Pretty mealy-mouthed, careful replies. I also noticed how very few of these FAQ's are answered in any great detail on this public website.
We all know that in the Pharisee-led WT articles, they then pick apart to the nth detail these very subjects.

their first word: "no".. they then go on to briefly answer this question.

their final statement says: "outside the family, however, no one is authorized to ban specific films, songs, or artists as being unacceptable for members of the congregation.

At JW.org, on their FAQ page, they try to respond to this question: "Do You Ban Certain Movies, Books, or Songs?"

Their first word: "no".

They then go on to briefly answer this question. Their final statement says: " Outside the family, however, no one is authorized to ban specific films, songs, or artists as being unacceptable for members of the congregation."

Most clever how, in this last sentence, NO MENTION is made about BOOKS. (Thinking here of Ray Franz's books and others).

But equally duplicit is the ludicrious comment about " no one outside the family is authorized" to do this!!!???!!!???

The answer on the FAQ page makes no sense. The question is: "Why don't you call your meeting place a church?"

The answer makes no sense at all. It begins by saying how a *church* meant a congregation of PEOPLE. A kingdom hall, on the other hand, is a BUILDING.

So it makes more sense (form the weird WT perspective) to call a gathering of people who worship together by the name of a building.

I suppose referring in any way to a gathering of PEOPLE is too crunchy-good-feeling and heartwarming. Can't have that!! After all, their publications don't even call people "people". It is always "ones". Righteous-hearted ones. Meek ones of the earth.... the humble ones who are searching... "These ones" whom Jehovah loves, etc.

Gawd, I wish I'd have gotten my teeth fixed.... :(

here i am, getting old and having my teeth and fillings (literally!

) falling apart now, and barely any dental coverage.

i just feel so sad and pissed off that i didn't do more when i was a jw and actually had coverage at the time.... .

Yeah, I remember the unreal feeling at the KH after I had my tooth capped. NOBODY expressed any happiness at my improved smile. There were suspicious whispers, bad feelings, jealousy from the one sister so bad that the elders had to get involved. And when the elders did get involved they counselled ME for having the temerity to get my tooth capped in the first place. Unfreaking-real.

Villagegirl, your post about those experiences is sickening. I can't believe I spent so many years in such a backwards, guilt-inducing, mind-numbing, judgmental, petty, and ultimately hostile environment -- where they TOTALLY focus on the tenth of the dill and the mint and the cumin!!!
